At Ferreus, sustainability lies at the core of our mission. By prioritizing metal recycling, we actively reduce waste, conserve precious resources, and minimize environmental impacts. Recycling metal conserves up to 95% of the energy required to produce aluminum and 60% for steel, compared to creating these materials from virgin sources. This approach significantly reduces the burning of fossil fuels, preventing millions of kilograms of CO2 emissions and saving vital natural resources like iron ore and coal. In 2024 alone, over 575,000 pounds of iron ore, 322,000 pounds of coal, and more than 5.5 million kilowatt-hours of energy were conserved through these efforts.
Our recycling initiatives not only protect natural landscapes from the disruptions of mining but also promote environmental sustainability by repurposing metals that would otherwise end up in landfills. Each ton of recycled steel prevents the extraction of approximately 2,500 pounds of iron ore and 1,400 pounds of coal, helping to preserve ecosystems and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
